Privacy policy
Daily Shipped is a free daily directory of newly launched startups. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it. The short version: we keep what we need to run the directory, we never sell it, and the only tracking is one optional Meta ads cookie that stays off unless you accept it.
Who runs Daily Shipped
Daily Shipped is run by an independent maker and is responsible for the personal data described on this page. For any privacy question or request, write to teamdailyshipped@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign in (with Google or an email code), our sign-in provider stores your email address and, if you use Google, your name and profile picture. We receive an account ID so we can tell your submissions and votes apart. Right after you sign up we ask once whether you came to list a launch or to read the paper, and keep that answer with the date.
- What you submit. Startup name, website, tagline, description, category, pricing, tags and links. Once approved, a listing is public. If you tick "Show my name", your name appears as the submitter.
- Your activity. Which listings you upvoted or reported, and the reason you gave for a report.
- Messages to makers. If you use "Contact the maker", we email your message to the verified maker with your email address as the reply-to, so they can answer you. We pass the message on and don't keep a copy. The maker's own address is never shown to you.
- A hashed network address. To stop spam we record a one-way hash of your IP address when you submit a listing and when you sign up for, or leave, the paper by email. We never store the raw address, and the hashes are deleted after about five weeks.
- The websites you submit. We visit a submitted website to check it is live and to read its public title, icon, preview image and text.
- Your email, if you subscribe. If you sign up for the paper by email, we keep your address. From the subscribe box we first email you a link to confirm. If you choose the paper on the welcome screen right after signing up, the address is the one you just signed up with, which our sign-in provider has already verified, so that tap subscribes it directly with no confirmation email.
- How you found us. If you arrive through a link with campaign tags (for example one of our ads) or from another website, we keep the source name, the campaign name and the page you landed on in a cookie for 30 days, and attach them to your account if you sign in, together with the country your connection came from, whether you used a phone, tablet or computer, and your browser's language. We use this only to see which ads, sites, countries and devices bring makers who go on to submit. It holds no name, email, address or identifier, and we never keep your IP address.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent personal data.
- We don't show ads on the site, and we don't use third-party analytics.
- We don't send marketing email unless you ask for it. You get sign-in codes and emails about your own listing (for example when it is approved, rejected or goes live), the paper only if you subscribed to it (through the subscribe box or the welcome screen), and occasional updates from Daily Shipped only if you ticked the box for them. You can switch updates off any time on My launches; we keep the date you switched them on as the record of your choice.
Cookies
We use the cookies needed to keep you signed in and to remember your choices (for example your cookie choice, whether you subscribed, and how you found us). These are always on because the site needs them.
Ads and the Meta pixel
We advertise Daily Shipped on Facebook and Instagram. To see which ads bring makers here, we use the Meta pixel, but only if you click Accept when we ask about cookies on your first visit. If you click Decline, nothing is loaded from Meta, and the site works exactly the same either way.
If you accept, Meta receives:
- which pages of Daily Shipped you visit, and
- the fact that a startup was submitted (not what you submitted).
When you submit, our server also sends Meta that same "submitted" event directly, with your IP address, browser type and a one-way scrambled (hashed) copy of your email address. Meta uses the hash only to match the event to a Facebook or Instagram account; it cannot read your email from it. This server copy is sent only if you accepted.
Meta sets its own cookies (_fbp, _fbc) for this and may link the visit to your Facebook or Instagram account under Meta's privacy policy. Our legal basis is your consent. We remember your answer in a cookie for six months, then ask again. You can change your mind any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page; if you withdraw, we remove Meta's cookies from your browser and stop loading the pixel.
Who helps us run the site
These providers process data on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:
- Clerk - sign-in and account management.
- Vercel - hosting and delivering the website.
- Neon - the database where listings, votes and reports are stored.
- Resend - sending email, and holding the list of subscribers to the paper.
- OpenAI - reading the public text of submitted websites to draft listings and reviewer notes. It receives the website's content, not your account details.
- Cloudflare - opens each submitted website in a browser to take the screenshot and to read pages built entirely in JavaScript. It sees the submitted site, not you.
- Meta - ad measurement, only if you accept cookies.
- Google - only if you choose "Sign in with Google".
Some of these providers are based in the United States, so your data may be processed there.
How long we keep it
- Listings stay public for as long as the directory exists, unless they are removed.
- Spam-prevention records (hashed IPs and rate-limit events) are deleted after about five weeks.
- If you ask us to delete your data, we delete your account, votes and reports and remove your name from listings you submitted.
Your rights
You can ask us to see, correct, export or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to remove a listing about your product. Email teamdailyshipped@gmail.com and we will reply within 30 days. If you are in the EU, UK or a similar jurisdiction, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Daily Shipped is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
